Upon completion of this qualification, students are awarded a CACHE Level 3 Award in Supporting Individuals with Learning Difficulties and an OLC Certificate. Course Content

This CACHE Level 3 Award in Supporting Individuals with Learning Difficulties course assesses the following units:

Unit 1- Understanding the context of supporting individuals with learning disabilities
  • Understand the legislation and policies that support the human rights and inclusion of individuals with learning disabilities
  • Understand the nature and characteristics of learning disability
  • Understand the basic principles and practise of advocacy, empowerment and active participation in relation to supporting individuals with learning disabilities and their families
  • Understand the historical context of learning disability
  • Understand the basic principles and practise of advocacy, empowerment and active participation in relation to supporting individuals with learning disabilities and their families
  • Understand how views and attitudes impact on the lives of individuals with learning disabilities and their family carers
  • Know how to promote communication with individuals with learning disabilities
Unit 2- Understand positive risk taking for individuals with disabilities
  • Understand that individuals with disabilities have the same right as everyone else to take risks
  • Understand the importance of a positive, person-centred approach to risk assessment
  • Understand the legal and policy framework underpinning an individual with disabilities’ right to make decisions and take risks
  • Understand the importance of considering with an individual with disabilities the risks associated with the choices they make
  • Understand the importance of a partnership approach to risk-taking
Unit 3- Principles of supporting young people with a disability to make a transition into adulthood
  • Understand the steps and stages of moving from childhood to adulthood
  • Understand how having a disability may affect the process of moving from childhood into adulthood
  • Know the options for supporting a young person who has a disability to make the transition into adulthood
  • Understand how to support a young person with a disability through a successful transition
  • Understand the importance of supporting a young person and their family to reflect on the transition
Unit 4- Understand mental well-being and mental health promotion
  • Understand the different views on the nature of mental well-being and mental health and the factors that may influence both across the life span
  • Know how to implement an effective strategy for promoting mental well-being and mental health with individuals and groups
  • This course can be taken over a 12 month period but you can complete it as fast or as slowly as you wish.
Assessments

To pass this course learners must pass 4 assignments. These are completed after navigating through the corresponding lessons and writing your answers to assignment questions. Once these have been read and marked by your personal tutor, feedback and marks are provided to students which contain helpful tips to improve work in future assignments.
