The CAE course is designed for students who want to achieve a high grade in CAE or those who want to improve their overall English skills. You do not need to take the exam, the course is ideal for making you more accurate and fluent in both speaking and writing. The course enables students to use English in academic, professional and social situations. The course is focused on developing language skills and teaches students to produce a wide variety of written language and styles. It also uses a wide variety of written texts to practice reading and understanding. The course also teaches study skills which are essential for higher educational study.

On this course you will:

  • Learn complex grammar structures
  • Develop vocabulary
  • Produce well structured essays
  • Improve your ability to understand a wide variety of spoken English
  • Learn exam strategies and techniques

The lessons run every weekday for 2 hours a day. The length of study depends on your level when starting the course but 12 to 14 weeks is recommended for advanced level students. For those of a lower level we would recommend studying FCE. Please contact the school for details on course start dates.

The exam - The exam can be taken in March, June or December. The Listening and Speaking tests are usually taken a few weeks before the Reading, Writing and English in Use tests, which are taken on the same day.

Reading
1hr 15min -45 questions on texts from publications such as newspapers, books and magazines.

Writing
2 hours - Two pieces of writing, 250 words each

English in Use
1hr 30 minutes - 80 questions testing students’ knowledge and control of the language

Listening
45 minutes - 30-40 questions including note completion and multiple choice

Speaking
15 minutes - Assessing candidates’ ability to produce English in a variety of tasks
