Carborundum and Drypoint Printmaking

1 day printmaking course
An Introduction to the rich textures of carborundum and printmaking combined with the immediacy of the drypoint line, investigating combinations of intaglio and relief printmaking.
Course Outline:
The day starts with a short farm walk to gather source material and making drawings on location.
In the studio we will consider shape and surface texture, review the drawings and prepare carborundum and drypoint plates.
The afternoon will be spent in the print room. There will be a demonstration of printmaking including using relief and intaglio methods and printing on the etching press and dry paper relief burnishing. There will be time for students to print their own plates prepared in the morning.

Your recent sketchbook if you have one and a pencil case of drawing materials.
About the Tutor:
Meryl Ainslie studied MA Fine Art Drawing at Wimbledon School of Art and BA(hons) illustration and Printmaking at Exeter College of Art and She has taught in art schools for many years and in 2005 opened Rabley Drawing Centre. Her work takes the form of sketchbooks and drawing installations. Recent projects have included the European Art Foundation ‘Skateraw’ and “Mirror to Nature” Seven Seven Projects, London.
