About this course

You will already need to have an excellent level of competency and understanding within this vocational area or at least a level 2 qualification. Ideally, maths and English GCSEs at grade C or higher, or an equivalent qualification are required. Course programme

Year 1

You will be taught how to conform to general health, safety and welfare in the workplace. You will be able to confirm the occupational method of work in the workplace. You will identify your work activities and the resources needed. You will cover installing bespoke first fixing components in the working environment. This will then lead on to installing bespoke second fixing components. You will need to demonstrate and develop excellent occupational working relationships in the workplace. Setting up and using transportable cutting and shaping machines in the workplace. Erecting structural carcassing components and erecting complex roof structure carcassing. And finally you may be required to maintain non-structural or structural components.

Year 2

Within the second year you will complete your practical assessments and also focus on completing your competencies within your NVQ portfolio. This will be your responsibility to complete your job knowledge questions and also ensure that you cover the range of work required for your assessor to observe you in your working environment.

Additional information

Assessment is by multiple choice question papers, covering knowledge outcomes and practical assignments, covering performance outcomes. Assessments are set by City Guilds, delivered and marked by the tutor/assessor, and are externally verified by City Guilds. This Apprenticeship will involve college attendance and you will also be regularly visited at work by your industry expert Trainer Assessor from Leicester College, who will support you to achieve the standard required.
