There are no formal entry requirements, but a reasonabhle standard of English and maths is expected, plus the enthusiasm and commitment to succeed. All students must display a positive attitude, be prepared to work as part of a team and have excellent attendance. All candidates will be interviewed to assess their eligibility for the course.

This course is for school leavers and adults interested in a career in construction.

Course Content
You will study the OCNW Preparation for Employment in Construction Industries and Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery, Key Skills Level 1 in application of number and communications. Areas covered include:
- Preparation for Employment in Construction Industries
- Health and Safety within the construction industry
- Stacking and storing materials and equipment
- The construction industry
- Safe use of tools
- Basic frames using woodwork joints
All elements are assessed and must meet City & Guilds standards.
Level 1 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery
- Health and Safety within the construction industry
- Produce full size drawings of products
- Stacking and storing materials and equipment
- The construction industry
- Produce basic woodworking joints
- Maintain hand tools
- Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools
All elements are assessed and must meet Construction Awards Alliance standards.
