College Interview Dip L2 or NVQ L2 in Carpentry or 5 years trade experience Applicants must be currently working as a carpenter or joiner.

Course Overview
This is an advanced programme of complex craft operations combined with Planning and Management and is designed for those who are employed in the trade & have already achieved the Level 2 Diploma or NVQ Level 2 in Carpentry.

It is ideal for those who wish to gain the advanced skills that can lead to a wide range of career or management opportunities within the trade.

Course Structure
The programme is delivered over 1-2 years
Candidates skills & knowledge will be assessed in the workplace
Students are also expected to identify & collect relevant work based evidence & carry out projects and research in their own time.

Topics covered will include:
  • Planning and organisation of work
  • Maintenance of working conditions
  • Complex timber structural work e.g., bay and bow windows, cut and pitch roofing, geometric stairs


Qualification Aims
On successful completion of the course students will achieve the NVQ L3.
Progression is possible to Management studies and GNVQ Built Environment.

Assessments/Examinations
Assessment is made with continuous practical and written assignments and projects together with evidence from the candidates own work.
Candidates require a CSCS Health & Safety Test Pass to achieve the full NVQ.

Equipment
Students will be expected to provide:
Steel toe cap boots
Simple calculator
Set squares 30°/60°and 45°(large)
Scale rule
2H pencils
A4 note pad and four ring binder

The cost of the equipment will vary according to quality. As a guide you will probably spend£30-£40 in total.
