"Animation is a technique that creates the perception of movement through images proposed to the viewer in rapid temporal succession. The movement perception effect is possible, according to the latest physiological and neurological studies on perception, thanks to the mechanism of ""short-range apparent motion"". Animation is usually produced using animated drawings or step-one animations. Animators are the professionals who are dedicated to creating animations. Animations, drawn on paper, or produced with computer graphics, can be enjoyed through a wide range of methods. Starting from the very simple flip-book (a block of sheets), to the machinery of the precinema, to the cinema film, to the video, up to digital systems of all kinds on the market today. The perception of movement through animation is produced, just like for films, through the rapid succession of images which, exceeding the perception time of the human eye (approximate to the value of 10 Hz, or 10 Fps), returns the perception of an apparent movement. The image succession rate is measured in frames per second (Fps); the minimum acceptable value of fps was considered in the past to be 12, at which however the image can have a non-fluid and continuous effect, for this reason later it was preferred to consider 16 frames per second as a natural minimum. Instead, the standard fps values are: 24, for Cinema; 25, for European television systems (PAL), 29.97 for the television system (NTSC).
