CCNA1 Introduction to Networking

This course is the first in a series of four semesters that make up the full CCNA qualification. Students who successfully complete Semesters 1 to 4 are eligible to take the CCNA certification exam. Alternatively, students can take two ICND certification exams – one after Semesters 1 and 2 and the second after Semesters 3 and 4.

This course covers theoretical concepts and practical application of the fundamentals of computer networking and provides opportunities for students to gain the skills and hands-on experience to work in this area.

• Build a simple Ethernet network using routers and switches


• Employ basic cabling and network designs to connect devices


• Design, calculate and apply IP addressing schemes and subnet masks

Students will learn how to:

Whilst there are no specific entry requirements, a good understanding of how to use computers is strongly recommended. The course is aimed at anyone working in or wanting to work in computer networking.

Students who gain the industry standard CCNA certification will be eligible to apply for a range of networking roles in small to medium sized businesses as well as service provider environments.

Normal progression would be to continue to CCNA 2 – Routing Protocols and Concepts. Students must successfully complete the end of semester exam before progressing to the next semester programme.
