In the undergraduate Ceramics minor in the Department of Art, you’ll be exposed to the complete scope of the ceramic medium and the placement of the art in the contemporary art world.
With this goal in mind, students take an introductory course covering fundamental hand-building techniques and basic wheel throwing while beginning to work with conceptual issues. During the second level of ceramics, students are encouraged to continue development of conceptual and formal issues. Advanced ceramic classes introduce students to combined techniques and alternative firing processes.
Throughout this curriculum students gain a firm understanding of the vast range of approaches to clay working. Students are encouraged to work functionally and sculpturally. A strong technical and conceptual understanding, sound craftsmanship and rigorous investigations are encouraged as students pursue their personal direction.
