Our Assistant Practitioner course benefits the radiology department and patients by offering greater flexibility to the workforce.
The course is suitable for those who are already working as diagnostic imaging department helpers in hospital trusts and it provides them with a work based programme that leads them to practice as assistant practitioners.
This Assistant Practitioner course helps you to move along the skills escalator from a supporting role to an active role in clinical imaging. For example, you will produce x-ray images of patients under the supervision of a registered radiographer or other appropriately qualified health practitioner.

Course programme
The programme is offered in an 18 month part time mode and leads to the award of a Certificate of Higher Education in Clinical Imaging. Entry is normally at level 4. Intake is normally semester B (February).
Professional and Statutory Regulatory Bodies
The Society and College of Radiographers support programmes that enable students to gain an ‘award’ at the end of the period of study. The award will reflect the students ‘scope of practice’ as an assistant practitioner and will assist them to apply for inclusion on the College of Radiographers register and accreditation as an Assistant Practitioner.
Work-Based Learning, including Sandwich Programmes
The work-based programme is 18 months in duration at Level 4; this includes the period following the final assessment to the notification from the Programme Board –a period of consolidation of practice. During the programme, students must achieve a minimum of 800 hours of approved, supervised clinical experience.
