Certificate of Higher Education in Women's Studies
The Certificate of Higher Education in Women's Studies was revalidated in May 2008.
The Certificate of Higher Education in Women's Studies will give you an insight into women's lives locally and globally and how women are working to improve women's lives. Focussing on the realities of lived experience and activism the course equips students to think about and make a difference in their own lives and the lives of others. The course is aimed at mature students with little or no prior knowledge of these subject and aims to give you a sound understanding of the core concepts, theories and approaches involved in Women's Studies.
Overall Course Aims
* To enable students without Higher Education - and often with little formal education - to achieve a Certificate of Higher Education
* To provide a wide ranging pathway that will allow students to gain knowledge and understanding about women's social, economic and political circumstances and issues in the contemporary world
* To enable students through the development of knowledge, understanding and research skills to work more successfully on behalf of women's organisations or on behalf of women
Learning Methods and Strategies
Teaching and learning methods will include:
* Tutor input through a range of activities and materials
* Student led seminars
* Student group work
* Videos and other visual material
* Information Technology - accessing information on the Internet

Requirement
All candidates must be able to satisfy the general admissions requirements for Ruskin College. These are: * You should be aged 19 or over * You must obtain medical clearance * You must demonstrate commitment to the ethos and vocation of Ruskin College * You must have the ability to benefit from study at this level Selection interviews are conducted as a two-way process in which you can make an informed decision about the suitability of the programme for you. You will find this process valuable. You will participate in an induction week, which includes sessions on all aspects of the college.
