This course is designed for learners aged 16 years and over who wish to work in a school environment working with children over the age of 5 years old alongside the National Curriculum. This qualification will enable learners to develop the knowledge and skills needed when supporting teaching and learning in primary, secondary or special schools. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people's development, supporting those with disabilities or special educational needs and communication and professional relationships

About this course

You should have two GCSEs at D or appropriate Level 1 qualifications and as a minimum you must be able to demonstrate positive communication skills and effective levels of reading, writing sufficient to meet the requirements of this training (an initial assessment will be undertaken to support your application). All applicants must undertake an interview and apply for DBS clearance to demonstrate that they do not have a criminal background which might prevent them from working with young people or vulnerable adults . What will I study on the course?

You will study a range of exciting units such as:

- Support and maintain relationships with children and young people

There are also a range of other units which you will study including a wide variety of optional units which support learners to become specialist in supporting different aspects of learning. These options will link with your placement to enhance your knowledge and provide you with the competency based elements of the qualification.

The course runs for 2 days per week over 1 year in addition you will be required to undertake 2 days placement per week to achieve a minimum of 240 hours of work experience
