The course provides a mix of knowledge and competence based units which enable the candidate to gain a high quality, nationally recognised qualification. Candidates must complete a total of 30 credits from mandatory and optional units. The first 4 units comprise knowledge based units which form the Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools.
About this course
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification; however, the qualification is ideal for those members of the school workforce who directly support the teaching and learning of pupils in an area that requires specialist knowledge and skills. Many students progress from the Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools.

Successful learners may progress to employment in a School Support role. With suitable employment they can progress to the Level 3 Certificate /Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, or an appropriate Apprenticeship in this field.

Assessment is via course assignments that are set and marked in college and externally moderated by OCR and assessment of work produced in the workplace. Assessment is based on a variety of methods: Observation; witness testimonie; examining the evidence of work; personal statements; written answers to questions; photographs or video/audio tapes.
