Introduction The qualification comprises Level 2 and Level 3.
Level 2 includes: health and safety, electrical principles and the application of electrical principles to installation of electrical systems in buildings and structures.
Level 3 includes: health and safety, advanced electrical principles, fault diagnosis and rectification and inspection, test and re-commissioning.
They can be studied as separate qualifications but the achievement of both is a requirement for an Advanced Apprenticeship and/or Joint Industry Board grading as an electrician.
Whilst primarily aimed at the installation industry the certificates also provide a sound base of electrical theory for other occupations; for example, engineering maintenance, or manufacturing.
Other Information In order to help as many people as possible achieve these qualifications we offer various methods of study: Full time -3 days per week. Duration is one year for each level. Day release - 1 day per week, either as a personal choice or as part of an Advanced Apprenticeship. Duration for Level 2 two years, for Level 3 one year. Block release - a series of 3 blocks of 4 weeks (5 days per week), spread over the academic year. Duration for Level 2 two years, for Level 3 one year. (Please note the above are available only if we have sufficient people to fill a class). Distance learning - to assist those who cannot or would rather not attend classes at the college we offer distance learning. It is suitable for any person wishing to achieve a qualification but who cannot take time off work or live too far away to attend the college or prefers to work at home. Working from materials on CD discs they will be fully supported by telephone and e-mail. However, we advise those who have no previous experience or who are not employed in the industry to attend our technology centre at pre-arranged times to gain practical experience. Duration for Level 2 two years, for Level 3 one year. Both levels are examined by a combination of on-line and written tests and practical assignments. Those studying by distance learning must be prepared to attend tests at our technical centre.
