Who is this course for? Those wishing to pursue a career within the motor vehicle industry. The City and Guilds Automotive qualifications are designed to meet the needs of Technicians in the Automotive Service and Repair sector.
Previous knowledge required: It is possible to enter directly at any level however, City and Guilds recommends that candidates who wish to start a level 2 qualification should either have successfully completed a Level 1 qualification, or have sufficient practical experience to enable them to complete the qualification. Without evidence of formal qualifcations, candidates must be able to demonstrate adequate prior knowledge and experience necessary to complete the course. Applications from mature candidates are particularly welcomed even though they may not possess the necessary entrance qualifications.
What will I study? The Level 2 Light Vehicle Maintenance programme consists of eight units: Contribute to workplace good housekeeping Ensuring your own actions reduce risks to health and safety Maintain positive working relationships Carry out routine vehicle maintenance Remove and replace engine units and components Remove and replace auxiliary electrical units and components
What else will I do? In addition to the main trade qualification you will also study the following: Level 2 Key Skills in: Application of Number; Communication; Information Technology, Working with others, Improving Own Learning and Problem Solving Mig Welding, Sheet metalwork
How will I be assessed? Essential knowledge for the technical units is assessed by means of a multiple choice test. The practical requirements are assessed by completing a set number of tasks ensuring full coverage of the vehicle systems and the range of practical skills required for each unit.
What will I achieve? Students who successfully meet the criteria set out by the examining body will gain: The City & Guilds Certificate in Vehicle Maintenance (level 2) Key Skills Units NVQ units in Mig Welding and Sheet Metalwaork
What can I do afterwards? Candidates who are successful at Level 2 will be able to progress to a range of further education and professional body awards. For Example: City & Guilds Level 3 Automotive qualifications and equivalents offered by other awarding bodies Institute of Leadership and Management Level 2 or 3 Team Leader Qualifications
Materials required: The college will ensure candidates have the equipment needed to cover all practical activities.
