Chair caning came to England in the 17th Century, when Charles II was given a chair containing cane panels which had been imported by the East India Company. The craft was learned by English craftsmen and has been in and out of fashion ever since. At present it appears to be enjoying a revival. Many people have a treasured chair which they would like to restore and this course is designed as an introduction to the enjoyable craft of caning.
