Course programme

“Triumpf of the Muses”
Baroque Dances, Vocal & Instrumental Chamber Music

Chamber music & dance
Accademia Amsterdam invites amateurs and (music) students to an exciting summer course dedicated to baroque chamber music and dance. Particular attention is paid to the overall interpretation of the early baroque period up to classicism.
The musicians of Accademia Amsterdam will treat participants with an inspiring concert in the beautiful Auditorium Marianum of the Istituto Musicale “G. Frescobaldi”, located in the historical centre of Perugia. This is also the place where most of the music courses are taking place. Music students present themselves on the last afternoon in the baroque theatre hall of the Università per Stranieri di Perugia.
The historical and artistic beauty of Perugia and the gentle landscape of the Umbrian hills serve as a source of inspiration.

Who can attend?
Courses are open to all dancers, singers and instrumentalists. Participants of all ages can apply, from moderately advanced amateurs to college of music students. We organise additional master-classes for participants who would like to obtain individual coaching in technique and style. The experienced tutors of Accademia Amsterdam will coach dancers, singers, wind-, string- and keyboard players of both modern and historic instruments. Individuals are welcome as well as ensembles.
Everyone can follow a dance workshop by master of baroque dance Ricardo Barros. Dance skills are not necessary! We organise separate baroque dance workshops and master classes for dancers, accompanied by instrumentalists.
Music teachers (who bring in their students) can follow advanced interpretation workshops at an advantageous rate. We offer music students an attractive discount.

Excursion
While we emphasize on making music together, some time will be reserved to visit the historical centre of Perugia or its surroudings. For those interested, we organize an excursion to one of the local cultural highlights.

Umbrian kitchen
Of course we do not forget the good life: dinners are being served in the proper Italian way, on the terrace of restaurant Iris, one of the typical Perugian restaurants. All course members and their family, partners or friends can join them. During the final party dinner we will offer you a typical Italian ‘aperitivo’ and the cook serves festive dishes.

Side programme
We offer an interesting and varied side programme for friends, partners or other interested people. This involves an Italian language & literature course, organized by the Universitiá per Stranieri di Perugia. We offer classes in traditional Italian cooking and painting/drawing as well. The participants of the side courses can present the results at the final concert. During the course-week you can enjoy the dishes of the cooking course at lunch or dinner.

Where to stay?
Just in front of the Istituto Musicale “G. Frescobaldi”, in an antique structure, we find hotel hotel Signa, where guest-students can stay conveniently at a reduced price. Participants wishing less luxurious accommodation can stay at a camping site or in ‘ostelli’ in the neighbourhood or in the historic centre of Perugia.
