Duration
4 Years
Designed to keep pace with current chemical engineering issues, our courses combine traditional chemical engineering topics with multidisciplinary design, biochemical engineering and sustainability.
You’ll be taught by prize-winning academics and will develop a strong base of knowledge that’s relevant across the chemical and petrochemical industries.
Students on our MEng course may take part in a multidisciplinary project which sees them working together with other engineers across the University.
You can apply to study for either a BEng or MEng (Master of Engineering). The MEng builds on the BEng programme with a masters year and is a direct route to a masters qualification. Depending on your progress, you may have the option to switch to a BEng or MEng during your studies.

About this course
Developed in consultation with industry, our BEng and MEng Chemical Engineering courses will equip you to tackle real-world engineering challenges.
Combining exceptional facilities with teaching from research-active academics, this course will prepare you for a fulfilling career in the chemical and process industries.
Surrey is one of the few universities in the world offering you the chance to experience operating a complete chemical engineering process. Our new £1.7m chemical engineering facility includes a fully-operational pilot process plant, allowing you to use industry-quality equipment.
A Professional Training placement provides you with the opportunity to develop your professional, academic and personal potential, equipping you to be adaptable, resilient, globally minded, confident, entrepreneurial and digitally savvy in the workplace. These qualities are widely recognised by employers and many of our students are offered employment on graduation by their placement provider.
The Professional Training placement year gives our students an insight into their subject and career potential, and early access to professional experience. It can be invaluable in developing work-based skills and helping them secure a graduate career.
We have worked closely with industrial organisations to design our courses around their needs, ensuring that our graduates are highly attractive to employers when they graduate.
Recent graduates have entered employment in roles such as:
Chemical Engineer, Saudi Aramco
Associate Process Engineer, Fluor
Reporting Finance Graduate, AkzoNobel
Process Engineer, Procter and Gamble
Process and Workflow Analyst, BOC
Graduate Project Engineer, Morrison Utility Services
Graduate Process Engineer, United Utilities.
BEng (Hons) - Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE)
Accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.
MEng - Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE)
Accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) for the purpose of fully meeting the educational requirement for Chartered Chemical Engineer.
