Why Chemical Safety? (10 mins) Explains why chemicals can be hazardous, and introduces the COSHH Regulations. Chemical Hazards (20 mins) Describes the different types of chemical hazard, illustrates the different symbols used to represent them, and introduces the CHIP Regulations. Chemicals in the Atmosphere (10 mins) Considers the inhalation risks of chemical substances and introduces the Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL). Safe Working and Handling (20 mins) Considers the methods used to reduce risks when using hazardous substances and gives guidance on the safe storage of hazardous chemicals. Basic First Aid (10 mins) Provides simple advice to anyone with no medical knowledge, giving them confidence to do something positive before expert help arrives. Covers chemical burns to skin and eyes, poisoning, and exposure to toxic fumes. Self Test: (10 mins) Twenty questions to test the student's understanding of the course. Results are stored for later retrieval by training supervisors.
