What are the main features of this course?
The first year is the AS course and covers atoms and reactions, electrons, bonding and structure, the periodic table, hydrocarbons and basic organic chemistry and energy. The second (A2) year comprises further organic chemistry, rates, pH and equilibrium, further energy and transition metals.
Hours of Lessons per Week: 4.7 Indicative Group Size: 20.
How is the course assessed ?
The syllabus is assessed by two examinations in the AS year and two in the A2 year. Practical work is assessed by completing three tasks set by OCR and carried out under controlled conditions. Examinations are available in January and June.
Who should study the course ?
Students should have a minimum of five GCSEs at C or better in core and additional science (or Chemistry), English Langauge, Mathematics (Higher only), and one other. Applied Science is not a suitable qualification with which to start this course

A level Chemistry is essential for degrees in Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Veterinary medicine and other Chemistry related disciplines.
