Chemistry - AS/A2
What will I study?
Chemistry is a methodical subject. It involves systematic learning of facts but also encourages students to analyse the facts, draw conclusions and make predictions. Chemistry is a practical subject and you will spend a significant amount of time in one of our modern purpose built and very well equipped laboratories. The practicals students carry out are based on the theory studied. Some of the practical work will count towards their final mark.

How can I progress?
Most students who study Chemistry want to be; *Doctors, Dentists, *Vets, *Pharmacists, *Pharmacologists, *Engineers, *Environmental Scientists, *Chemists or Biochemists. (Usually their two other subjects are chosen from Maths, Physics, Biology (Human Biology) or Environmental Science. However, Chemistry and Biology with Psychology or Geography are also popular combination.)

What will I need to qualify for this course?
In order to qualify for this course, candidates should have; *5 A* - C at GCSE, including BB in core and additional science (or B in single award GCSE chemistry.

Course Structure
Whilst studying towards this qualification the following modules will be covered; AS Two theory modules and an externally assessed practical skills assessment: *Foundation Chemistry: This unit explores the fundemental principles that form the basis of Chemistry. *Chemistry in Action: This unit introduces more of the principles that underpin chemistry and looks at the applications of these principles and those that have been developed in unit 1. A2 Two theory modules and an externally assessed practical assignment. *Kinetics, equilibria and organic chemistry: this unit develops the concepts of physical and organic chemistry started in the AS course. *Energetics, redox and inorganic chemistry: This unit completes the specification and allows students the opportunity of developing their knowledge and understanding of these topics met in the AS year.
