MChem Chemistry with International Study offers you a four-year degree programme. During the first two years you cover all the major branches of chemistry and learn how they are interconnected.  Laboratory classes in both years form an essential integrated component of your training and you will conduct experiments in all branches of the subject. You will also study your chosen language (we currently offer French, German, Spanish and Italian) for those students who will take up a placement in mainland Europe.

36 points overall with a grade of 6 in each of 3 Higher Level subjects to include Chemistry and one other science or maths.  If English is not offered as one of the Diploma subjects (SL or HL) then a score of 6.0 at IELTS (or an equivalent approved qualification) must be offered.

Acceptable on its own or in combination with other qualifications. Award of bachelorccalaureate with an average of  84% with at least 8.5 in Chemistry and another science or mathematics.  Approved English language qualifications include: 70% in a four periods per week.

BTEC Extended Diploma with a minimum of 150 credits awarded at Distinction and the remaining 30 credits at Merit.  We may request a copy of the syllabus.
Overall 60 credits are required with 45 at Level 3 including 40 credits at Distinction, 15 of which should be in Chemistry and 15 in another science (Mathematics, Physics or Biology).  We also require GCSE Mathematics and English Language at grade C or above, or equivalent. We also consider other factors such as additional educational achievements, life experience and skills on an individual bachelorsis.
The University welcomes applicants with the AP qualification. Such applications will be considered on an individual bachelorsis
We welcome applications from students who are either studying towards the full Cambridge Pre-U Diploma or certain Principal Subjects within the qualification alongside A levels. Conditional offers will be set on an individual bachelorsis but are likely to include achieving grades D3-M2 in Principal Subjects. Principal subjects must include Chemistry and at least another science from mathematics, physics or biology.
Standard entry requirements for this course include two A levels or equivalent from a specific list of subjects or subject areas. This Line of Learning does not fully address the material covered in any of these A level subject areas, and will therefore not be considered acceptable for entry onto this course.
The University of Manchester recognises the benefits of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and the opportunities it provides for applicants to develop independent study and research skills. The Extended Project is not a compulsory element of post-16 study and as a result the University will not include it in the conditions of any offer made to you. However, if you choose to undertake the EPQ we would strongly encourage you to draw upon these experiences within your personal statement, as it may be taken into account when your application is considered.
If you have followed a non-standard educational route and have been, for example, educated at home, your application will be considered against the standard entry criteria of the course to which you applied. You will be required to demonstrate that you meet the academic entry requirements as specified for the course. We will also require a reference which should be written by somebody who knows you well enough, in an official capacity, to write about you and your suitability for higher education. An appropriate European Language qualification (minimum GCSE grade A) is also required for students wishing to study at a mainland European destination. Please consult our Admissions Office for further details.
A Level: Grades AAA to include Chemistry plus one other science or maths subject. In addition, at least grade A at GCSE Level in an appropriate European Language for students wishing to enrol at a mainland European university in Year 3.
Minimum grade C in GCSE English Language. IELTS - minimum 6.0 overall with no less than 5.5 in any component. TOEFL - minimum 80 (internet-bachelorsed).
Some English language test results are only valid for two years. Your English language test report must be valid on the start date of the course.

Applicants to this course can change to any of our degree courses at any time up to the start of the academic year. 
Applicants are considered on their predicted grades, a good academic reference, their personal statement and an interview.
Mitigating circumstances may be personal or family illness, other family circumstances, change of teachers during a course, problems with school facilities or an unusual curriculum followed by your school or college. We recommend that information on mitigating circumstances that have affected or are likely to affect your academic performance will be included in the referee's report. We cannot usually take into account information that is supplied after an adverse decision has been made on an application by the admitting School. If you encounter mitigating circumstances after you have submitted your application, please inform the admissions staff in the School to which you applied as soon as possible. Where mitigating circumstances have already been taken into account, for example by the relevant Exam Board, we will not be able to make further allowances.

The School's policy is to interview all UK bachelorsed applicants. A series of Visit Days are arranged between November and March annually.
We welcome applications from overseas.  We have no quota limitations for international applicants and offer Chemistry International Scholarships.  International applicants are also eligible to apply for the Faculty Academic Excellence Scholarships.
Applications for deferred entry are considered equally to other applications up to the point of confirmation. Deferred entry is granted on the discretion of admissions staff, and is normally granted for one year only and 2 years at the maximum. We normally also guarantee a place in the current year should the applicant's gap year plans change.
If you have re-sat individual modules to improve your grades, we will consider your application according to the standard selection process. If you are planning to re-sit the final Year 13 examinations, or have already done so, the University will consider your application, but we may require further information in order to make an informed judgment on your application.

If you applied in the previous year and your application was not successful you may apply again. Your application will be considered against the standard course entry criteria for that year of entry. In your new application you should demonstrate how your application has improved. We may draw upon all information from your previous applications or any previous registrations at the University as a student when assessing your suitability for your chosen course.If you are applying for a place for the same year of entry through UCAS Extra, you should provide additional evidence of your suitability for the course. If you are applying through clearing you are required to meet the clearing requirements. In both UCAS Extra and clearing the places will be subject to availability.

Our Chemistry graduates are skilled in scientific methodology and are numerate, versatile and creative, making them attractive to employers from a range of sectors. Around half of our graduates get a first job directly using their chemical knowledge; 25% go on to a further degree; and the remaining 25% opt for diverse careers in such areas as finance, management, computing and IT. Throughout the academic year, our School runs an extensive programme of employability events to further enhance your employment prospects, most of which are open to all students from all years. These events are run in collaboration with the University's award winning Careers Service
, involving various alumni, employers and the Royal Society of Chemistry, and include numerous drop-in sessions held in the Chemistry Building. Depending on your degree, you may have additional specialist knowledge in analytical or medicinal chemistry, or a European language. If you spend Year 3 abroad or in industry, you will gain highly sought after life skills and demonstrate a proven ability to adapt, attributes which will make you highly attractive to future employers. MChem Chemistry with International Study  is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry as satisfying the academic requirements for admission to Membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC) and the award of CChem (Chartered Chemist) for graduates with a first or second class honours degree.
Graduates are eligible for Affiliate Membership of the Royal Society of Chemistry at a reduced rate. On graduation you can proceed to Associate or Full membership and Chartered Chemist Status (depending on degree class).
