Child Care and Education Course Our Child Care and Education course is aimed at anyone wanting to work with children and young people. About Our Child Care & Education Course This course is based on the current National Occupational Standards for Children's Care, Learning and Development at Level 3 and reflects the shift in focus to children's services. Our course in child care and education will provide you with the knowledge and understanding of child development and education necessary for working with children in a variety of job roles and settings. It will prepare you to work unsupervised or in a supervisory capacity with children and their families. What Can I Do After Taking This Child Education Course? Work in child care and education. After successfully completing this child care course, you could apply for jobs such as: Early Years/Foundation Stage Practitioner in nurseries, pre-schools or schools Special Educational Needs Support Worker Nanny/home-based child carer Children’s Centre Practitioner Start your own business. You could start and run your own business as a child day care centre owner. Build your career. You could continue your training to progress and develop a career in the early years, children and young people’s sector, working directly with people in roles such as a senior care worker, children’s centre worker, outreach worker or social worker. SyllabusAn introduction to working with children

This unit looks at the range of services for children and their families.

Development from conception to age 16 years

The unit aims to give you an understanding of child development and the theories of development. It will teach you how to observe children and why it is important when planning for children’s learning.

Supporting children

This unit focuses on safeguarding children and supporting them in a range of situations. You will learn how to keep children safe from abuse and discrimination.

Keeping children safe

In this unit we look at keeping children safe and healthy, how to prevent accidents and illness and well as procedures for dealing with these. We also consider the importance of planning the physical environment for children.

The principles underpinning the role of the practitioner working with children

This unit looks at the skills you need to be an effective practitioner, it looks at the importance of building relationships with others.

Promoting a healthy environment for children

This unit looks at the importance of a healthy environment for children and the range of factors that can affect a child’s health.

Play and learning in children's education

This unit looks at the role of play in children’s learning and how you as a practitioner can support children’s play. The unit also considers how play can be used to support the curriculum.

Caring for children

This unit considers the different types of settings that work with children and their families, it looks at how a child’s needs can be met in different ways and how you as the practitioner can work with other professionals to meet these needs.

Care of sick children

This unit covers health promotion and how to care for a sick child. It also looks at the signs used to identify a sick child and the steps taken to support the child.

Nutrition and healthy food for children

This unit considers the importance of a healthy and balanced diet for a child and how you can plan and prepare food for children of different ages.

Working with children with special needs

This unit considers what is meant by “special needs” and “inclusion” as well as the types of legislation that exists to support children.

Developing children’s (3 - 8 years) communication, language and literacy skills

This unit considers developing children’s (3 - 8 years) communication, language and literacy skills and how you can support this.

Study Hours

This is only an approximate figure and is dependant upon how much time you can dedicate to your studies and how well you grasp the learning concepts in the course material. Furthermore, at the end of each lesson there is a question paper that needs to be completed and returned to your tutor. You should allow at least 1 - 2 hours of study to complete each question paper.

The approximate amount of time required to complete the course is: 120 hrs.
