Summary

This course is designed to help students build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people.

This course introduces students to the childcare sector. To obtain the Early Years Educator license to practice students must successfully complete this course and progress onto the level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education.

It is run over two days per week in addition to 3 days of work placement which are integral to the course and will provide opportunities for students to develop their confidence, self-esteem and practical skills in a range of settings, such a schools, nurseries and children's centres.

The units covered through this qualification may include:

  • Child Development
  • Children's Health and Well-being
  • Children's additional needs
  • Emergent Literacy and numeracy
  • International Perspectives
  • Reflective Practice
  • Play and Learning

This course also requires 400 hours of work placement per year in a variety of settings

Additional information

Progression Students will progress onto the Diploma and then the Foundation Degree in Early Years at City College or a similar higher education course.
