About this course
Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. 5 GCSEs are required at grade 4 or above with GCSE English and maths at grade 4 (C) or above being part of those five. The English and Maths requirements are mandatory and applicants with grade 3 in either or both will be made alternative offers.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications. You should apply to course C0483.

Year 1
The course comprises of 15 units that cover: child development; child health; play and learning; how to observe children; international perspectives on childcare and early years; preparing for school readiness; and how to help children develop emerging literacy and numeracy skills. There are two competency-based professional practice elements carried out in different age ranges in settings. You are required to gain 400+ hours in placement across the first year of study. It is important that you work with the placement coordinator to ensure you are working towards the correct placement. Year one will also include an externally-assessed submission which is completed under controlled conditions.
Year 2After the certificate you can apply for CACHE level 3 Diploma in Childcare and Education (Early Years Educator) – course code C5711. You will continue with subjects across a range of areas including: research skills; curricula in early years; and building your professional portfolio in the work placement. A further 400+ hours of work placement will follow in year two, again undertaken in a variety of settings. All assessment in the diploma year however is completed by assignment or in the workplace. There are no formal supervised assessments in the diploma.
