• Selection is by interview and a good school or employer reference. • There are no formal entry requirements, but you will be expected to show a keen interest in working with children and to demonstrate an ability to cope with the assessment process. • Other information such as assessment results, relevant experience and portfolio may be taken into consideration. • To be able to attend work placements, you are required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service application (formerly Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Application). The cost of this will be approximately £45 and will need to paid in full at the time of enrolment. Course Content You will study a mixture of theory and practical work within the course, including units related to caring for children and becoming a childcare worker. Units include: • Growth and development for young children • Human growth and development • Supporting babies to play • Respecting and valuing children • Children’s play and leisure • Healthy eating • Confidence building for the young child • Finding out about Forest schools; Science, Music and Craft activities for young people • Practical health and safety. How will I be assessed? You will be assessed for competency in each unit through the completion of a linked assignment. A pass in all units must be achieved in all areas to gain the full award. Each unit is worth a number of credits; 10 credits are needed to acheive the Award and 26 to achieve the full Certificate. 37 credits are needed to achieve the Full Diploma. Progression CACHE is a nationally recognised provider of childcare qualifications. You will be able to enter employment at trainee level or progress to further education such as the CACHE Level 2 qualification in Childcare and Health and Social Care or to an Apprenticeship programme. Fees • If you are aged 16-18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. • If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases.
