You will need to have one GCSE at Grade C and three at Grade D or above, in an academic subjects, or a suitable Level 1 qualification in Childcare or equivalent. You also need to have enthusiasm and an interest in working with young children 0 - 16 years. A successful interview, a police check and a suitable reference are also required.

• You will also study Maths and English
You will also take part in work placements working with children and staff in a range of settings. Work placements are usually arranged by the College.
You will spend some time in College as well as in a work placement. Classwork is a combination of lectures, practical activities, discussion and tutorials.
Where can I move on to after this course?On successful completion of this programme you may progress with your studies and apply to join the Level 3 course (over 19s will need GCSE at Grade C in Maths and English to do this). Alternatively, as this qualification is well recognised by employers and as a Level 2 qualification, it enables you to work as an assistant in the Childcare and Education sector (eg with children aged 0 - 5 in a range of settings, such as nurseries, playgroups and pre-schools).
