Course programme

What qualifications do I need?

A minimum of 5 GSCEs at A* to C Grade, including English language; or a suitable Level 2 qualification in Childcare at mainly Merit, or equivalent.

Early Years Educators now need to have both the English and Mathematics at Grade C GCSE to practice their childcare qualification.  If you do not already have these two essentials, you may be able to take them alongside your early years studies.

You will need to have a successful interview, appropriate references and an Enhanced DBS check (arranged by the College).

What’s involved?

You will study theory units in both years including:
• Children's health and well-being
• Play and learning
• Providing safe environments
• Supporting additional needs
• Supporting children's literacy and mathematical skills
• Preparing for school readiness

Alongside the theory units run practical skills units each year and these are assessed in your work placement.

How will I be studying?

Classwork is a combination of lectures, practical activities, discussions and tutorials. You will spend some time in College and in work placements with children aged 0 to 7 years.

Where can I move on to after this course?

The Early Years Educator qualification allows you to work unsupervised with children.  With experience you may work in a supervisory role in a range of children's settings: pre-schools, nurseries, as a nanny, in primary schools, or in children's holiday facilities both in the UK and overseas.

Alternatively, as this qualification attracts UCAS points you could progress on to Higher Education.
