Overview:

The course will benefit all carers who work with children and young people in all child care settings.

It will help to support carers dealing with children and young people who are experiencing a loss.

Course Content:

The course covers:

• What is grief
• Common reactions to loss
• Guidelines that may help to resolve grief
• How bereavement may affect parents and carers
• Talking to children about death
• What bereaved children need from carers
• Practical help for bereaved children under 5
• Sources of information, support and guidance

Methods Used:

• PowerPoint presentation
• Video/DVD ‘When a Child Grieves'
• Discussions
• Exercises
• Questioning

Course Duration: Half or full day

Certificate:

At the end of the session, learners will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance which can be referenced to knowledge within relevant NVQ's.
