This one year course builds on the knowledge and skills needed for working with children and young people from birth to age 19. This course will include a work placement. Areas of study include:
Principles and values
Safeguarding
Health and wellbeing, learning and development
Professional practice
Develop further understanding of child development and child care services in Wales.
You will also complete the Core Qualification alongside this course.
Elements of this course can be delivered through the medium of Welsh.

Course programme
A large part of the assessment takes place in your work placement, but you are also required to compile a portfolio of evidence from both placement and college.
Students who successfully complete this course can progress to work in the sector or to the Level 3 CACHE Diploma for Children’s Care, Learning and Development. This can be done as a full time course in college or as part of a work based apprenticeship, which involves working in a childcare setting and attending college for one day a week.
A suitable Level 1 qualification or two GCSEs at grade C and at least a D in English Language. You must complete a DBS prior to enrolling on the course. Cost is approximately £44
