This two year course will enable you to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding that is required to work in this sector. It covers child development from 0-19 years, but you will need to be working with children in the childcare sector rather than the education sector. You will further develop your occupational competence through attendance and assessment in the workplace.

About this course
Students could progress to the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Children’s Care, Learning and Development (Advanced Practice)
Other options include the Foundation Degree in Care and Support, Early Childhood or Community Work and Employability.
Employment opportunities include nursery nurse, nursery assistant, play group assistant and Cylch Meithrin assistant.
Employment in a relevant childcare setting for a minimum of 20 hours per week.

Course programme
Students will attend college for one day release day per week. There is an emphasis on the development of skills, with students undertaking Communications and Numeracy Essential Skills at Level 2 and Digital Literacy at Level 2.
Knowledge assignments are internally assessed. Occupational competence is assessed in placement by an occupationally qualified and competent assessor.
