Course programme
This is a work-based qualification where you will be learning the Early Years foundation frameworks, focusing on 0-5 years old. You will be learning about current legislation and frameworks whilst developing your own professional practice.
You will be assigned an Assessor for the duration of the course that will continually carried out plan observations on your practice within your setting. Units include legislation and well-being such as safeguarding, Health and Safety and an introduction to the role of the Early Years Practitioner. One of the themes will be taught and assessed on how you plan and implement learning activities to support a range of children¿s development needs. This will include carrying out children¿s observations using various methods in line with current legislation and facilitate the child¿s development.
The framework for this qualification includes:
- CACHE Level 2 Award in Employment Responsibilities & Rights in Children & Young People's Settings
- English and Mathematics GCSE A*-C
- Level 2 ICT Functional Skills
- Level 1 in Maths and English
- Employed in the Child Care sector, working at a level where they may either be working on their own or supervising others Alternatively the College can also support the students if necessary.

The assessment of your apprenticeship is an ongoing process throughout the year. You will have a number of specific skills and experience that you must get marked off by your allocated assessor who will observe your practice and work with your employer in order to support you to meet the course requirements.
At the College you will be assessed by completing written work assignments, and your functional skills at level 2 in Maths, English and ICT which go towards your formal qualification.
Upon achievement of this qualification it is intended that apprentices will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators. Learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors such as:
- Practitioner in day nurseries
- Practitioner in nursery schools
- Practitioner in reception classes in primary schools
- Pre-school worker
- Home based child carer.
There is also opportunity for apprentices to go on to further study at higher levels, particularly working towards Foundation Degrees in Early Years.
