Course programme

Course review:

The Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 require all employers to provide adequate and appropriate equipment, facilities and personnel to enable first aid to be given to employees if they are injured or become ill at work. These regulations apply to all workplaces including those with less than five employees and to the self-employed.

This course will address the needs for a trained first aider in workplaces that are classed as lower-risk such as offices and shops. The information provided in this course is lifesaving and very important in terms of providing a safe workplace. Businesses that do not appoint a first aider or provide the correct facilities for first aid will be putting their own workforce at risk of injuries and even death.

Program

On 1st October 2009 the Health & Safety Executive implemented a new one-day Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course that replaces the Appointed Persons courses. EFAW is suitable for lower risk working environments and for organizations with fewer than 100 employees. This CIEH new one-day course is HSE approved and OFQUAL accredited.

  • Roles and responsibilities of a first aider
  • Assessment and management of first aid incidents
  • Management of an unconscious casualty
  • Management of a casualty who is not breathing normally
  • Management of a casualty who is choking
  • Management of a casualty who has a bleeding injury
  • Management of a casualty who is in shock
