About this course

Candidates wll typically have the equivalent of 5 years experience in managing people, processes and technology in a construction based environment. Candidates will need to demonstrate their occupational competence through completion of the part A Application form before commencing the programme.

This course is designed to meet the needs of mature students and is the experienced professional’s route to becoming a Chartered Builder.WYG Training offers a 1 year lecture programme one day per fortnight starting in October each year. To assess eligibility, prospective candidates are initially asked to complete form Part A. Copies of the form and further advice are available through WYG Training.Prior to sitting the exams, candidates must apply to the CIOB for an assessment of their EXPERIENCE to ensure that it is an acceptable LEVEL and of therequired LENGTH. Success at this assessment will lead to membership of the Associate class (ACIOB). This tests a candidate’s competence with anemphasis on problem solving: Examinations:ManagementContract and Commercial PracticeAssignments: Construction Technology (2 assignments)Health, Safety and the Environment (2 assignments)The Professional Review comprises an assessment of your occupational competency followed by an interview. This interview is conducted by a panel of senior CIOB Chartered Members. The purpose of the interview is to seek clarification where required and to confirm that the candidate meets the Institute’s criteria. In addition to the submitted material, candidates are required to give a short presentation.The Construction Technology and the Health, Safety and Environment modules will be assessed by twosubstantive coursework assignments of approximately 2000 words each.The Management and Contracts and Commercial Practice modules will be assessed by separate 3 hourexaminations. The examination papers will consist of 6 questions and candidates will be required to answer all 4 questions. Candidates will need to demonstrate that they have acquired and can use the appropriate learning outcomes when responding to assignments or examination questions.All questions will (where stated) refer to a project scenario which will be made available on the CIOB website. Candidates are expected to make reference to current standards, legislation and best practice.
