About this course

Course suitability

Information about the course

This is an introductory level course aimed at developing core personnel and development skills. It is at an equivalent level to NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in HR Support.

•An interest in the use of information technology to support learning.
•The ability and willingness to work independently and with other learners in groups and for group assessed assignments.
•Access to an organisation on which to base course assignments and others to gain comparator information.
•The personal commitment to follow the programme through which may be challenging and demanding in content, particulary if you are returning to study
•Allocation of adequate study time – approximately 4 – 6 hours per week, although this will depend on the individual and his/her learning style and physical space in which to study.
•Commitment to freely share infromation with other learners on the course and through the use of the on line classroom contribute to group working and learning.
•Regular and punctual attendance to all classes is essential, please let tutor know if for any reason you are unable to attend.
•Access to a reliable computer either at work, home or College is important for your studies.
•Some prior experience of using a word processor, the internet and email.
•Basic IT skills including use of Window or Mac based applications is desirable
•Awareness of securing data on more than one place – USB/pen drive, hard drive and email due to the event of pc crash or data corruption is desirable.

Course content

Human Resource Plans and Organisational Context
Contribute to the development and implementation of a human resource plan that meets business objectives for both expansion and contraction.
Contribute to the collection, maintenance, reporting on and interpretation of computerised personnel information.
Recruitment and Selection
Contribute to the recruitment process by playing a part in job analysis interviews, writing job descriptions and person specifications, writing copy for recruitment advertisements and submitting appropriate media for advertisements contribute to the selection process by playing a part in shortlisting, selection interviewing and the decision-making process.
Training and Development
Identify training needs, design a learning event to meet identified needs, prepare and deliver a learning event and evaluate training and development events.
Performance Management and Employee Relations
Conduct an appraisal interview, agree and review performance targets, contribute to grievance and disciplinary interviews and contribute to the operation of pay and reward systems.

Additionality

Your results will be forwarded to you direct from CIPD upon completion of your course or units depending on your enrolment. This can take up to 2 months to be received.

All students must register with CIPD on commencement of the course as individual student members and pay the appropriate fee approximately £162 for registration and student membership. Students must join within 2 weeks of commencement of the course. Company membership schemes are not a valid substitute for individual student membership. CPD membership fee is addition to the above fee.

Assessment

Continuous assessment for 5 units by 2 skills and 2 written assignments plus a work-based project. Successful completion of the course will result in gaining the Certificate in Personnel Practice awarded by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Progression

On successful completion of the overall course, the CPP learners receive the CIPD Certificate in Personnel Practice and are eligible for Associate membership of the CIPD. The CPP can be used as an access route to the CIPD Professional Development Scheme (PDS), although it should not be assumed that this is an automatic entitlement.
