Course programme

Extending the functionality of networks and network administrator skills, this course takes delegates through the process of building a unified communications network. Cisco-certified training materials ensure that students are fully trained in the latest technologies, preparing them to eventually sit the highly-prized CCNA networking qualification.

From the basic concepts behind VoIP telephony and unified communications, to actually implementing these technologies, participants will have the knowledge to build a unified communications network from scratch. Alternatively network managers and voice engineers can use the training to sharpen their existing knowledge to improve and troubleshoot an established network.

As well as understanding the infrastructure that supports VoIP deployments, delegates will be introduced to the configuration and installation of IP handsets across a networked environment. Students will also be taken through the process of advanced configurations, such as conference calling, call routing, pick up groups and hold music.

Managing the unified network is also covered in some detail, with training on the use of the Cisco Unified Communications Management tool to reduce the administrative burden and simplify deployments.

At the end of this course, network managers and voice engineers will have all the knowledge required to manage IP telephony networks built using Cisco technologies.

KEY LEARNING POINTS

Network engineers enrolled on the CCNA 640-461 will learn all the skills required to design, build and manage a unified communications network using the Cisco Unified Communications v8 feature set and tools.

Initially the course covers several basic concepts to ensure participants have a firm grasp of the fundamentals of VoIP and IP telephony. The course then moves on to look at:

  • Interaction between VoIP traffic and common operating systems and software.
  • Configuring and managing user privileges using LDAP to simplify extension management and improve security.
  • Installing, configuring and managing Cisco IP phones, and using advanced protocols to further improve communications and availability.
  • Using voice conferencing and call routing to meet specific business needs and challenges.
  • How to use the CUCM toolset to manage unified communications from a central console.
  • Troubleshooting a unified communications network built on Cisco technologies.
ADVANTAGES OF THIS COURSE

Cisco CCNA 640-461 is essential for network administrators charged with overseeing a unified communications network, or for voice engineers who are working towards the CCNA certification. By taking this course, delegates can expect:

  • To develop real-world skills that can be applied immediately in any Cisco network environment.
  • To successfully design, deploy and manage a VoIP/Unified Communications network.
  • To have mastered advanced configuration techniques to route calls, create call groups, and host voice conferencing.
  • To have gained a full understanding of the Cisco communications protocols and when to deploy them.

Upon completion of this course, delegates can fully expect to be able to manage a Unified Communications network, or to sit and pass the CCNA Voice Certification exam.
