Completion of CISCO Essential IT or Comptia A+ is essential along with a working knowledge of. It is expected that students will have passed the A+ exam or are working in the IT industry. All students will be required to attend an interview.

CISCO CCNA Discovery Semester 1 is a comprehensive introduction to the basics of computer networking and telecommunications principles. This course will prepare learners to sit the Cisco Discovery Networking for Home and Small Businesses (CCNA1) certification the first step towards achieving the globally recognised CCNA professional certification which comprises of 4 parts.
Course Content:
Semester 1 (Networking for Home and Small Businesses), focusing on connecting to networks, network addressing and basic network security. This course involves hands-on, lab-oriented activities that stress laboratory safety and working effectively in a group environment.
Theory aspects are studied and tested online using Ciscos own electronic curriculum which learners may also access from home. The course is delivered through a blended learning approach where tutor-led teaching is combined with the electronic materials and testing.
In addition, learners will be able to troubleshoot networking hardware communication problems. Learners will understand and apply commonly used networking technologies in a variety of contexts and appreciate what takes place in the daily operation of a network.

Exam:
The course is assessed by the completion of a number of end of chapter online tests and an end of semester examination. The final CCNA examination is taken independently at a regional centre.
