Brief Description of the Course:

This Creative Skills Certificate is designed as a valid and reliable progression to the production of floral items undertaken on the level 2 certificate in Floral design. The course includes 2 core modules: Researching design ideas and concepts and Develop and innovate ideas for floral designs. A further 2 specialist modules enable you to apply these skills in the context of floral design where you will develop in-depth practical skills and knowledge and demonstrate a high-level of innovation and technique. This is an ideal course for any florists looking to develop their skills.

Entry Criteria:

Students are normally aged 16 or over and have completed a basic techniques’ qualification in floral design.

Applicants for all courses in Floristry Studies are expected to show a strong commitment to the industry and a strong personal statement. You must have an interest for Art and Design and a love for flowers. Good communication skills are paramount therefore prior work experience in a retail environment would be an advantage

Units:

¨ Researching design ideas and concepts.

¨ Develop and innovate ideas for floral designs.

¨ Traditional flower arrangement – Table Décor

¨ Contemporary flower arrangement – Table Décor

Assessments:

Assessments will include assignments and practical displays; there are no formal examinations on the Level 3 Certificate.

Possible Careers / Jobs:

Employment opportunities in Floristry and its related industries are currently very good. The possible jobs include freelance florist, contract work, working in a florist, and demonstrating.

Progression:

The level 3 Certificate is an ideal spring board for progression to a level 3 Diploma programme or Foundation Certificate in Commercial Floral Design.

¨ Plant materials – flowers & foliage to create advanced designs.

¨ Photography – equipment and developing.

¨ Floristry Tool box, to include a range of tools and ancillary items for use with advanced techniques.

Study Tours:

¨ There will be an optional opportunity to book on a range of trips and tours. These may include tips to Holland to visit auctions and growers, Bruges to visit an international flower show, New Covent Garden in London and various day trips to enhance the learner experience.
