About the course:
The skills developed by the learner include: communication skills, organisation skills, the ability to work unsupervised, how to adapt techniques according to the situation, the ability to complete a full electrotherapy facial, how to promote services and advise on aftercare products.
The knowledge acquired by the learner will enable them to understand how electrotherapy facial treatments affect skin types and conditions, understand the different types of electrical currents used in each machine, identify the benefits of each machine and achieve an understanding of the related anatomy and physiology.
It includes the following knowledge.
- desirable characteristics of an appropriate treatment environment
- the factors that need to be considered
- the effects and benefits of an electrotherapy facial treatment
- the range of equipment used for electrotherapy facial treatments
- how to match the electrotherapy equipment to suit client treatment needs, skin types, conditions and characteristics
- the effect of electrical currents on the skin products used in conjunction with electrotherapy equipment and their key ingredients
- known contra-indications to electrotherapy facial treatments
- the methods of evaluating the effectiveness of the treatment
- the contra-actions that may result from an electrotherapy facial treatment
- the aftercare advice that should be provided
- skin types, conditions and characteristics
- how natural ageing, lifestyle and environmental factors affect the condition of the skin, muscle tone and upper skeletal system
- the structure and function of the skin
- the growth cycle and repair of the skin
- the characteristics, function and structure of muscles
- the position and action of the facial and décolleté muscles
- the location, function and structure of the bones of the head, neck and shoulder girdle
Assessment
This unit will be assessed by an assignment covering practical skills and underpinning knowledge
You will need to provide pens / pencils and paper.
Smoking is not permitted on the premises or before attending classes or carrying out treatments.

For City & Guilds courses you are required to attend an informal interview to ensure selection of the most appropriate course. You can arrange an interview by contacting us either by telephone or e-mail, alternatively return the booking form, you will be contacted to arrange a suitable time. To secure the place, a deposit is required. Once the interview has taken place the booking fee is non-refundable. Payment may be spread over the duration of the course by setting up a standing.
Training must be paid for in full once training has commenced even if the course is not completed.
