There is quite a lot of work involved in this course (including homework), however this course is very rewarding and enjoyable and will give you an excellent insight into interior design and an ideal grounding to advance to the intermediate course.

Course content

You will produce two assessments - room schemes for a Bedroom and a Bathroom which you will display in a portfolio.

During the course you will learn to:

a) Look at the relationship between colours and produce harmonious and contrast colour
schemes on given room outlines
b) Look at a range of materials which can be used for wall surfaces, flooring, furniture and furnishings.
c) Use samples of colours, textures, furnishings and accessories to produce a design board to a brief given by the
tutor.
d) Understand the basic requirements for various types of ceiling and additional lighting.
e) Understand the basic requirements for various services, including electric switches, sockets and appliances. Heating sources, water supply, waste water removal and telecommunications equipment.
f) Use a scale of 1:20 to draw simple plans and elevations for a given room, showing the
furniture layout, lighting, services, furnishings and accessories.

notes, ideas etc. and a folder of essential notes, including Health & Safety advice relevant to
