The units will be assessed by the gathering of work-based evidence into a portfolio. The authenticity, sufficiency and validity of the evidence will be judged by the assessor. There are also five online independent tests which require a pass mark of 60%

The Level 3 Diploma in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair covers complex faults in lorries and coaches. Learners will be taught how to diagnose faults using the correct diagnostic procedure. They will have access to state of the art technology with grade 1 tutors. This course includes the most up to date technologies in the Heavy Vehicle sector. This is a City & Guilds qualification recognised in over 300 countries. Learners will gain status as a fully qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.

This course leads directly to a career in the Heavy Motor Vehicle industry. Successful learners will be fully qualified mechanics recognised in the sector. Higher Education engineering related courses would be the appropriate next step, e.g. the Level 4 Certificate in Advanced Automotive Diagnostic Techniques or a Level 5 Foundation Degree in an engineering discipline.
