Brief Description of the Course:

This course is designed for students who wish to develop an overview of the Horticulture, Landscape and Sportsturf industries. It will prepare you for a range of careers in practical employment positions, alternatively it provides an ideal progression route to further and higher education.

(NB: All programmes are based on credit accumulation. Each unit of study is worth either 5 or 10 credits towards the total amount needed to achieve the qualification).

The College offers opportunity to study at level 3 (A level equivalent) for students who wish to develop a comprehensive understanding of Horticulture, Landscape or Sportsturf encompassing practical techniques, academic knowledge and technical skills. It is a popular option for both school leavers and successful Level 2 Diploma students. The course incorporates a mix of practicals, classroom lectures, industry visits and case study exercises. Students enjoy the wide variety of theory and practical subjects combined with a range of projects and assessments.

For learners with 4 GCSE’s including English Language at Grade C, the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma has 6 units (60 Credits) of study and makes up the two terms of the Level 3 Extended Diploma qualification.

For those learners who are 19+ and want to study at HE level we offer an intensive 12 unit (120 credits) 1 year Diploma course.

Students will also receive training and assessment in a range of additional qualifications, which will enhance their employability.

During the course students will gain a combination of both academic knowledge and practical skills such as the identification, production and maintenance of plants, construction and maintenance of hard landscape features such as block paving and flagging and the maintenance of turf areas for a variety of situations. You will gain skills in using and maintaining land based machinery such as mowers, rotavators and compact tractors.
