Our master’s degree is unique in the UK for the breadth of materials and sustainable construction methods it introduces you to. You’ll explore renewable and low-carbon engineering materials that are key to infrastructural development worldwide.

Focusing on sustainability, you'll learn how to use materials and design to enhance our built environment. You’ll develop an in-depth understanding of the behaviour of structural materials and their characteristics. When you graduate, you’ll have the skills to analyse and design engineering structures with innovative materials and non-conventional technologies.

About this course

If you want to pursue a career as a civil or structural engineer, or go further as a researcher or academic, our course equips you to take the next step. We work with industrial partners to make sure that you develop the practical and theoretical expertise that employers value in graduates. These include, technical, communication and design skills. You’ll also have the chance to study with students on other construction-related MSc courses, preparing you for working in industry. Our students have gone on to work in some of the top UK and overseas engineering and design companies, including AECOM, Atkins and Foster & Partners.

IELTS: 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in all components
The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic): 62 with no less than 59 in any element
TOEFL IBT: 90 overall with a minimum 21 in all 4 components
If you need to improve your English language skills before starting your studies, you may be able to take a pre-sessional course to reach the required level.

Accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators with IHE as meeting the requirements for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who already have an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng (Hons) or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc (Hons) first degree.
