Year 1

Courses are divided into modules. Each year you will normally take modules totalling 120 credits.

Required Modules

There are no required modules for this course in Year 1.

Optional Modules

You will select modules totalling 90 credits from a wide range of options that may typically include:

  • Ancient Greek Language 1 (30 credits)
  • Ancient Greek Language 2 (30 credits)
  • Ancient Greek Language 3 (30 credits)
  • Introduction to Byzantium & Modern Greece: The Greek-speaking world from 330 AD totoday (30 credits)
  • Art & Archaeology of Greece & Rome (30 credits)
  • Greek Literature: An Introduction (30 credits)
  • Reading Modern Poetry Comparatively: Greek & English (30 credits)
  • Receptions of the Past: The Hellenic World from Antiquity to Today (30 credits)

You may choose to take 15 credits from another Department in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities and the Department of War Studies with approval from the Head of Department. You may take a further 15 credits in Modern Greek Language from the Modern Language Centre.


Year 2

Year 2

In your second year, you are required to take at least 90 credits of Classics modules. With approval from the Head of Department, they may choose to take 15 credits from another Department in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities and the Department of War Studies. Students may take a further 15 credits in Modern Greek Language from the Modern Language Centre.

You are required to take sufficient credits to bring your total for the year to 120.

Year 3

In your final year, you are required to take at least 90 credits of Classics modules. With approval from the Head of Department, they may choose to take 15 credits from another Department in the Faculty of Arts & Humanities and the Department of War Studies. Students may take a further 15 credits in Modern Greek Language from the Modern Language Centre.
