Knowing and understanding about the consequences of negligent actions in the health, community and social care context is everyone's business in order to be aware of risks and avoid them for the benefit of patients and service users. Suitable for: Risk Assessment Managers, Clinical and Non-Clinical staff in healthcare. All those concerned with the well-being of patients in health care settings where the safety of the patient is in the hands of a great variety of personnel, and where the avoidance of risks is paramount. This course takes trainees carefully through the assessment of risks in order to avoid the consequences of medical or clinical negligence with its attendant litigation or settlement costs.

Mini Biography: The subject matter expert is Dr Peter Feldschreiber qualified MB.BS. at Kings College Hospital Medical School in 1974 and specialised in general medicine and pharmacology, therapeutics and pharmaceutical medicine. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine, Royal College of Physicians and holds an appointment as Medical Assessor to the Committee on Safety of Medicines. He is a Barrister at Lincoln's Inn practising in all aspects of Medical Law.

CLINICAL NEGLIGENCE
Knowing and understanding about the consequences of negligent actions in the health,
community and social care context is everyone's business in order to be aware of risks and
avoid them for the benefit of patients and service users How this course can help you: “£579.3 million was paid out in connection with clinical negligence claims in 2006-07. This figure includes both damages paid to patients and the legal costs borne by the NHS” (NHS LA).
This course will give health, community and social care staff an understanding of the legal responsibilities and constraints of their work in general practice and the community. By enabling access on-line, users can work at their own pace, and when all exercises have been completed, receive a Certificate for CPD or annual appraisal purposes.
