The new part-time, distance learning MSc Clinical Pharmacy (Primary Care) programme is designed for newly qualified pharmacists. It is the first programme of its kind in the UK.
You’ll develop the clinical and advanced therapeutic skills required to work effectively in a GP practice, enhancing your ability to deliver safe and effective patient-centred care in partnership with multi-disciplinary teams.
The programme covers subjects such as:
the foundations of primary care practice
advanced communication
managing complex patients with co-morbidities
prescribing
quality and service improvement
It enables you to:
effectively work with health and social care providers across the primary care setting
analyse, interpret and present medicines data to support decision making
develop and monitor evidence based practice guidelines
use consultation / communication skills to manage challenging situations
make independent therapeutic decisions / recommendations
We are also able to offer you the opportunity to attend specialist clinical therapeutics study days alongside students on our secondary care MSc programme.

This programme provides education and training for early career pharmacists to develop their knowledge and skills whilst working in a GP practice. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team is key to the development of relationships and experience in any clinical setting and the University of Bradford School of Pharmacy & Medical Sciences is well positioned to ensure that multidisciplinary learning and working is at the forefront of the course design due to its close involvement with programmes for other allied health professionals including physician associates, nurses and paramedics.
You will normally complete a 30 credit module each semester - 60 credits per year.
There are four core modules across years 1 and 2 (120 credits). There is however ample opportunity for choice within each module in relation to the nature of patient care plans produced and work based learning assignments, as well as the chosen area of competence in prescribing practice.
The final year (3) comprises 2 further modules and needs to include the Quality and Service Improvement Module (if not previously undertaken) along with the Quality and Service Improvement Project. These modules are also taught in an inter-professional setting.
All modules have been mapped to the RPS Foundation Pharmacist Framework.
