Course programme

The aim
To equip people with a range of practical tools and techniques to handle various coaching situations.

About the programme
In the real business world, coaching situations spring up all the time. They should be exciting opportunities for feedback, growth, development and improved, bottom-line results. But often, even with the best preparation and planning, people respond unpredictably!

This four-part series is suitable for all coaches, managers and team leaders, team members, mentors...even those who need to coach their managers! It shows a range of examples where the coach is confronted with a challenge, and demonstrates the tools and techniques used to handle it.

Each of the four programmes highlights the various skills required to navigate specific coaching problems. Learn memorable lessons about topics such as: how to prepare yourself to give feedback, and how to put across your message whilst minimising conflict; how to explain the negative consequences of someone's behaviour and gain agreement on the need for change; how to uncover the real issues behind someone's behaviour; and how to deal with personal style problems that are resistant to change.
Part 1. Can We Talk?(10 mins)
Marie wants to talk to fellow team member Claude about the problems caused by his late deliveries. But how does she start? How can she handle her anxiety and fear of what might happen?

Part 2. So You Agree with Me?(9 mins)
Leon wants to talk to his manager about her leadership style (he, and the other team leaders, think she is too autocratic). But she disagrees with him. How can Leon turn her around so that she becomes motivated to change her behaviour?

Part 3. What's Really Going On?(9 mins)
Dana has noticed a change in Brad's performance. Previously a star performer, he is now doing the minimum necessary. He agrees that his work has slipped, but he is vague about the reason.

Part 4 Why Are We Stuck?(9 mins)
Martin is Kim's mentor. He has been getting frustrated with her because even though she is highly intelligent, she talks too much. He and others have tried changing her, but she either can't or doesn't want to change. They are stuck until Martin changes tack.
