This is an advanced course in navigation, Rules of the Road and meteorology for candidates for the Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore Certificates. The syllabus for the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Certificates. The syllabus makes some provision for revision of subjects in the elementary course but those who have not acquired the knowledge set out in the Day Skipper Course are unlikely to assimilate all the subjects covered in the advanced course in the time available.
The subject areas covered include:
- Navigation including position fixing, estimated and dead reckoned positions.
- Magnetic compass.
- Tides and tidal Streams.
- Pilotage and passage planning.
- Electrical Navigation aids (echo sounder, GPS, Chart Plotters, etc...).
- Meteorology.
- Rules of the Road.
- Safety.
Weekly Evening and Daytime Classes commence in September for 24 weeks.
Each class duration is of 2 hours.
Five day intensive courses take place throughout the year.
Weekend courses are available throughout the year. Each course will operate all day Saturday and Sunday extending over three weekends.
