The Welder Competence Certificate is a 1-day welding training qualification that delivers all of the requirements to analyse, train, upskill and test a welders competency. Using our welding competency matrix, we can assess your skill, provide training from beginners to coded welding and then carry out a welder competency assessment. You will be awarded a Welder Competence Certificate at Level 1-3 (beginner, intermediate or advanced) or even awarded a welder coding.

You will choose one ARC welding process, including a MIG Welding course (GMAW), MAG welding Course GMAW), TIG welding course (GTAW), Flux cored welding course (FCAW).

This certification can be used for pipe welding and plate welding.

About this course

The welding qualification applies to a wide range of welding and general fabrication work where an approved welding procedure test is not required. Welders follow written instructions, and the weld testing is subject to visual inspection, as well as destructive testing including a bend test, nick break fracture test and a macro etch.

Depending on the particular weld configuration, each test can cover a range of welding variables, for example, material thickness and welding positions.

This training programme is for Welders that have previously welded as part of their job role and who are looking to gain a competence certificate as proof of their ability to weld at the appropriate level. This process works well for companies and the self-employed who need to provide evidence of competency to meet regulations.

You will be awarded a Welder Competence Certificate at Level 1-3 (beginner, intermediate or advanced) or even awarded a BS 4872 Class 2 Welder Coding Qualification.

Does a welding certificate expire?
Yes, the welding competence certificate issued by the welding expire every 12 months, you will have to take part in a weld test at your certificated level to maintain your certification. Welder coding certificates must be signed every six months by a suitably qualified person to confirm the welder is still producing welds of the required standard. You must be formally re-tested at least every two years to ensure a continuity log.

A supportive training system that will ensure that you have the necessary skills to progress.

CODED WELDING TESTING BS 4872 ∙ 1 DAY

The Welding Academy is fully approved by the TWI (The Welding Institute) to deliver coding qualifications. All tutors, examiners, and inspectors at The Welding Academy hold the relevant CSWIP qualifications, allowing us to conduct welder qualification testing at our sites.

BS 4872 applies to a wide range of general fabrication work where an approved welding procedure test is not required. Welds would usually be carried out in accordance with written instructions and the test weld is subject to visual or surface inspection, a bend and fracture test.

Depending on the particular weld configuration, each test can cover a range of welding variables, for example, material thickness and welding positions.

Welder coding certificates must be signed every six months by a suitably qualified person to confirm the welder is still producing welds of the required standard. You must be formally re-tested at least every two years.
