The aim of the Postgraduate Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Practice is to increase understanding of mental illness and train students in basic Cognitive Behavioural Therapy concepts, methods and skills. The purpose is to train practitioners in mental health programmes including primary care, to apply Cognitive Behavioural Therapy models at levels 1 and 2 within a stepped care model (low intensity psychological interventions). The course is available to all health and social care professional groups and other staff such as counsellors who wish to learn basic Cognitive Behavioural Therapy methods and is relevant for staff working in mental health, primary care and social care settings. The Postgraduate Certificate is offered over two 12 week semesters over one year. A 2.2 Honours degree or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University. Applicants who do not meet this academic requirement but hold a professional qualification will be considered on an individual basis. Course Details
The PG Cert is comprised of four 15-credit modules:
- Mental Health Awareness, Engagement and Assessment
- An Introduction to CBT Theories and Methods
- Providing Psychological Interventions at Levels 1 and 2 in a Stepped Care Model
- Evidence-Based Low-Intensity Psychological Intervention for Mild to Moderate Mental Health Problems Each module is taught one day per week over two 12-week semesters at Queen's.
